General Knowledge

General knowledge is the default pick when a group cannot agree on anything else, and it is the fairest one. Nobody has an obvious home advantage: the questions wander from biology to geography to language to the kind of trivia that sticks to you without ever being taught.

The questions in this category are deliberately uneven in shape. Some have a clean factual answer you either know or do not — how many hearts an octopus has, which country spans the most time zones. Others are the sort where the obvious answer is wrong on purpose, which is where rounds are usually decided. A newborn has more bones than an adult, not fewer. The letter missing from every US state name is Q, not X.

That mix is intentional. A round made only of hard facts turns into a memory contest and the same person wins every time. Mixing in questions where the trap is the point keeps it competitive across a group with very different backgrounds — which, in a game you play with friends rather than classmates, matters more than difficulty calibration.

General knowledge works well as one of the three categories you can combine in a single round. Pairing it with a specialist category gives everyone something they are good at and something they are not, which tends to produce closer scores than a single-topic game.
